US President Donald Trump says he now backs the release of all documents related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — a surprise reversal of his previous stance.
He called on Republicans in the House of Representatives to support the move.
Congress is set to vote this week on whether to publish files from the federal sex trafficking investigation into Epstein, a politically well-connected financier who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.
“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform late on Sunday.
He dismissed the controversy as a “Democrat hoax” aimed at deflecting from the Republican Party’s success.
Critics had accused Trump of opposing the release to conceal alleged wrongdoing, which he denies.
The issue also drew criticism from within Trump’s Republican base, notably creating a rift with longtime ally Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trump has since withdrawn his endorsement of her 2026 bid to be re-elected to Congress.
Last week, the House Oversight Committee released thousands of emails and other documents from Epstein’s estate.
While Trump has never been accused of wrongdoing, his name appears several times in those files, including a 2019 email in which Epstein claimed Trump “knew about the girls.”
The White House accuses Democrats of selectively leaking the emails to smear the president.
