During Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, a protester interrupted the show by unfurling a flag combining Palestinian and Sudanese symbols. The individual, a member of the 400-person production team, concealed the flag and revealed it during the performance. Security promptly apprehended the protester, who was later banned for life from all NFL events.
The protest occurred amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, highlighting the global reach of the Super Bowl and the diverse perspectives of its audience. The NFL and Roc Nation, the entertainment agency behind the halftime show, confirmed that the act was unplanned and the individual’s intent was unknown to the production team.
Despite the brief disruption, Lamar’s performance continued without further incident, featuring collaborations with artists such as SZA and appearances by Samuel L. Jackson and Serena Williams. The Eagles secured a 40-22 victory over the Chiefs in the game that followed.
