Appearing at a packed rally in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday night, Trump addressed the growing chatter surrounding his recent public appearances, where some critics claimed he looked fatigued or was slurring his speech.
“They want me gone because they know I’m the only one who can beat the disaster we have in the White House right now,” Trump told supporters. “Every time I go up in the polls, suddenly the fake news starts whispering about my health. It’s ridiculous — I’m in better shape than Biden ever was, even 30 years ago.”
The former president did not mention any specific news outlet or political figure but implied that the rumors were being “pushed by the usual suspects in Washington and the media.”
Trump’s campaign has also dismissed recent viral clips and social media posts suggesting he appeared unsteady at a private fundraiser last week, calling them “selectively edited” and “grossly misleading.”
“President Trump maintains a rigorous schedule and is in excellent health,” said campaign spokesperson Caroline Leavitt. “These rumors are nothing more than desperate attempts to distract from his growing popularity.”
While Trump’s medical records have not been released in 2025, his team insists there is no cause for concern. Political analysts suggest the resurgence of health-related attacks mirrors tactics used during the 2020 and 2016 campaigns, which Trump successfully overcame.
As Trump ramps up his campaign efforts ahead of the primaries, he appears eager to turn the rumors into a rallying cry — portraying himself as a political outsider under siege once again.
“They’re not after me — they’re after you,” Trump said, pointing to the crowd. “And I’m just standing in the way.”
