First off, obviously there is not and never has been any such person as “Princess Kate Middleton”. When the then Prince William of Wales married a lady called Catherine Middleton, she gave up her maiden surname.
Secondly, King Charles has given his daughter-in-law precisely no titles. On his accession he conferred the title Prince of Wales on his eldest son and heir, which is customary: and as in British law a titled man’s wife automatically shares her husband’s rank, status and titles – she cannot in law be prevented from having them – that automatically made her Princess of Wales. The King didn’t need to grant it to her.
Thirdly, the late Queen was never at any time Princess of Wales, as during her father’s lifetime she was never the heir apparent: there was always the theoretical possibility that he might have had a son who, under the then law of succession, would have displaced Princess Elizabeth.
Catherine’s full list of titles* is now: Princess of Wales; Duchess of Cornwall, Rothesay and Cambridge; Countess of Chester and Strathearn; and Baroness Carrickfergus. The late Queen never held any of those titles in her entire life.
